Cutaneous Porphyria has been called the vampire disease. This is because people with this type of porphyria have a sensitivity to light, red urine, and the gums shrink to a point where the teeth look a lot more canine like (site3 tab).
There are about eight different types of porphyria. Acute and Cutaneous are just the most common. The rarest of the eight is Congenital erythropoietic porphyria (CEP). This affects an estimated 1 in 1,000,000 or less (site3).
