What is Porphyria?
There are two different types: Acute Porphyria and Cutaneous Porphyria. According to Mayo Clinic (site1 tab) porphyria refers to a group of disorders that result from a buildup of natural chemicals that produce porphyrin in your body. Porphyria mainly affects the bodies nervous system but it also affects the skin and other organs in the body. Porphyria is a inherited disorder. One or both parents can pass on the defected gene. In other cases, environmental factors can trigger symptoms of porphyria (Site1 tab).
